For a two-week USA holiday, the useful question is not which eSIM has the biggest allowance. It is which package covers your complete route for a clear total price. A New York city break, a national-park drive and a trip continuing into Canada need different checks.

The quick answer

Start with a 10GB or 20GB USA plan valid for at least your full stay. Prioritise route coverage for a driving trip, and choose a voice-capable product only if you actually need a US number. Check Canada and Mexico separately.

How we compare eSIM plans. MeSIM sells the plans featured on this site.

Compare a 14-day trip, not a one-day headline price

Filter for a package that lasts through your final travel day. A 15-day or 30-day offer may fit a two-week stay better than buying several shorter packages, but compare the final totals rather than assuming the longer plan costs more.

For a duration-configurable product, select all 14 days before comparing it with a fixed-data package. Include any taxes or fees shown at checkout. A cheap daily headline and a fixed 30-day price are not directly comparable.

Should you buy 10GB, 20GB or unlimited?

Use your phone’s recent data history as the starting point. Then add the activities you will do away from Wi-Fi. The examples below are arithmetic budgets, not measured averages for US visitors.

Choose more headroom if you will upload videos, make frequent video calls or share data with a laptop. For unlimited-style products, confirm the high-speed limits and hotspot rules rather than treating the word unlimited as a guarantee about every type of use.

Choose coverage for your route and your handset

Look up your accommodation and route on the map for the network listed by your seller. T-Mobile’s prepaid map, for example, describes expected outdoor coverage and explains that buildings, equipment and other conditions can affect service. A national map is not a promise of reception at every trailhead or hotel room.

Confirm that your specific phone model is compatible and carrier-unlocked before purchasing. Apple explains how iPhone users can check the carrier-lock setting. If you bought your handset in another market, check that model rather than relying only on the product family name.

Do you need a US phone number?

Data-only service can be enough for navigation, email and internet messaging. It does not give you ordinary US voice calls or SMS just because your phone is connected to a US network. List the services you need before paying extra for a number.

A direct carrier prepaid product is another option if talk and text matter. T-Mobile offers a visitor eSIM purchase route, but its product terms belong to that service, not to every travel eSIM using the same network. Compare activation timing, number inclusions and total trip price separately.

Adding Canada or Mexico to the same holiday

A USA label is not confirmation of coverage across North America. Read the country list and ask whether data allowances or activation requirements differ after crossing a border. A plan covering all three countries can simplify setup, but separate country packages may cost less for a short second stop.

Before buying, compare your USA package plus the additional country with a regional plan for the same dates. Keep a copy of the activation instructions and order information available offline.

Frequently asked questions

Is 10GB enough for two weeks in the USA?

It provides about 0.71GB per day on average. It can suit moderate use with Wi-Fi for large downloads, but frequent video or hotspot use can exceed it.

Can I buy a USA eSIM before flying?

Many travel products can be purchased in advance, but installation and activation rules vary. Read the selected offer before buying so its validity does not start too early.

Will a USA eSIM work in Canada?

Only if Canada is explicitly included in the package. Check any separate data allowance and activation conditions.

Can I keep my home number with a USA eSIM?

On a compatible dual-SIM phone you may keep your home line alongside the travel line. Select the travel line for data and check your home carrier’s charges for calls and messages.
